Sustainability Roadmap

Opportunity

Arwidsro, a Swedish real estate company, wanted support in taking its sustainability strategy to the next level. The company’s management team had reviewed and staked out the company’s prioritized sustainability actions. With this ambitious work as a base, The New Division (TND) was asked to create a clear roadmap for the journey ahead.

A roadmap is a format that summarizes and explains sustainability plans. It ensures that commitments, goals, KPIs, and activities are easy to understand and track. A roadmap also supports knowledge-spreading internally, as well as well-anchored communication externally.

Process

TND reviewed and structured Arwidsro’s existing material including the prioritized actions scoped by the management team. We also interviewed internal and external stakeholders to gain insights into investor demands, best-in-class examples and the expectations on the roadmap. Based on these insights, we supported the client with formulating commitments, goals, KPIs, and actions.

When the first draft of the roadmap was created, we held a workshop with the management team to review insights, co-create the content of the roadmap, and to anchor the format. In the final version, the roadmap was structured into three sustainability pillars, nine focus areas and 22 goals.

We designed the roadmap in alignment with Arwidsro’s brand, and we created both a detailed version to be used in reports and presentations as well as a more easily digestible version with an overview containing icons for each of the nine focus areas. We also designed a system for the client to easily indicate progress, meaning that the same roadmap can be used to show what has been achieved year by year.

Creating the roadmap was an iterative process, where we worked closely together with Arwidsro to ensure that the content and structure were anchored internally and closely connected to the overall business strategy.

Change

Together with the client, we developed their sustainability strategy, making it even more actionable. We involved key stakeholders from the management team and aimed for the final delivery to be useful for the organization at large.

The final delivery covers ambitions, commitments, goals, and activities. It supports the internal sustainability team in creating engagement for the sustainability work ahead, as well as communicating progress to external stakeholders.
